Window 2008R2 VPN suddenly stopped working Error “connected to port VPN2-24 has been disconnected because no network protocols were successfully negotiated”

Problem We had a client where a working VPN setup suddenly stopped working with error “The user OLX\user connected to port VPN2-24 has been disconnected because no network protocols were successfully negotiated.” Troubleshooting We validated telnet to port TCP 1723 was working from outside. Validated VPN configurations and found them OK Found some articles where it was asked to switch to static IP Pool, but we were already static. Checked other misc settings and found something strange,  which I do not remember now. But we decided to TCP/IP stack reset on the server. Performed TCP/IP stack reset and winsock reset, rebooted the server After reboot we lost our IP information, once that was reassigned Voilla…we are able to connect to VPN now. Windows 8.1 unable to dial to Windows 2008 VPN (Routing and remote access) services

Problem: Win 8.1 PC unable to dial into windows 2008 VPN server  with following error Error 942: The connection could not be established because the authentication method used by your connection profile is not permitted for use by an access policy configured on the RAS/VPN server. Specifically, this could be due to configuration differences between the authentication method selected on the RAS/VPN server and the access policy configured for it. Solution: You can find the problem on the Security tab of the VPN connection Properties window.
